Route des belvédères

MATAPÉDIA-ET-LES-PLATEAUX

The five communities of the Matapédia-et-les-Plateaux region have chosen tourism as a primary leverage for local economic development. In order to create a major attraction that brings them together and values their landscapes, they have set up the Route des belvédères project, which is the result of various local consultation activities initiated in 2006.

Aiming to establish a renowned tourist route combining landscapes, themes specific to the territory and lookouts with distinctive architecture, this route first began to get underway in the summer and fall of 2018, with the construction of the first two structures: the Deux-Rivières lookout in Matapédia and the Coeur des Plateaux lookout in Saint-André-de-Restigouche.

Two other architecturally distinctive structures will be added in the next few years: the current Horizon de rêve lookout in Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia will be replaced by a new structure, and the Petite Cross Point lookout will be built in L’Ascension-de-Patapédia.

Eventually, the Route des belvédères will include four architecturally distinctive structures in the Matapédia-and-the-Plateaux region, as well as a Carrefour d’accueil offering information and promotional items to visitors.

The Route des belvédères project is supported by the Matapédia-et-les-Plateaux Economic Development Corporation on behalf of the citizens it serves. It is intended to be a leverage for the implementation of new services to improve the region’s offer.

The Corporation would like to warmly acknowledge the contribution of partners who are essential to the development of such a project and of our territory. A huge thank you to Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, to the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation du Québec, to the Avignon regional county municipality and to the five municipalities that form the region as well as to their staff.

Many thanks also to the consortium formed by Sani-Sable, L’Atelier de soudure Gilles Roy, Constructions scandinaves and Amérik Innovation, as well as to all their subcontractors for the quality of their work.

Finally, a very special thank you to Desjardins, our important financial partner.
